Family Law during Covid-19 (Coronavirus)

Wheeler Family Law response to Family Law during Covid-19 (Coronavirus).

The COVID-19 pandemic has had an enormous impact on the lives of all Australians, including with respect to family law matters. In these uncertain times, people facing separation will need a lawyer they can trust, and we are here to meet that need.

At Wheeler Family Law, we continue to provide excellent service to our clients, despite the challenging circumstances. We offer consultations to new clients by telephone or videoconference call, at the client’s preference (including by way of Microsoft Teams, Skype, and other programs). We are limiting face-to-face contact in compliance with government directions, and so our office premises is closed without prior appointment, but we remain available by telephone and email. This new situation has required a flexible and innovative approach, and we are proud of our response so far.

We are also sensitive to the sad reality that, in times of crisis, people often need the help of trustworthy family lawyers to provide assistance. Parenting disputes can be complicated at the best of times, and more so than ever given the current restrictions and concerns. Family violence remains an ongoing problem which, in many cases, may be worsened by the current situation. There are also additional financial strains, and the need for urgent spousal maintenance and/or property settlements to be implemented. We can assist with all of this.

As the operation of the courts has been significantly impacted (see more here), it is more important than ever to settle matters by negotiation where appropriate. At Wheeler Family Law, we pride ourselves on taking a pragmatic approach and assisting clients to avoid litigation, where possible. Where court proceedings are necessary, we continue to provide high quality, and cost effective, advice and assistance.

Also, given we are using technology to assist clients, including for family law consultations, and most Family Court and Federal Circuit Court hearings are being conducted electronically, we are still able to assist clients living around Dandenong, the South-Eastern suburbs, Mornington Peninsula, Gippsland and so on, but we are also now able to service clients in Melbourne, Geelong, and all across Victoria. In some ways, the difficult circumstances with coronavirus have enabled us to improve the already great family law service we can provide to clients.

As life goes on through this pandemic, so do we – and we are here to help. Please feel free to contact us to arrange a consultation.
